Case Study: Refinery Maintenance Services

CLIENT: MIDWEST REFINERY

BACKGROUND

A Midwest refinery was looking to improve its efficiency. To date, the refinery had issues with one of their heaters operating at temperatures above design. The engineers were not able to solve the problem on their own and looked to Groome to determine a solution.

OBJECTIVE

A Groome inspection completed a thorough review of the facility, and identified the issues that needed to be resolved. The results showed that maintenance was needed to bring the refinery back to its intended operating level.

SOLUTION

An experienced Groome team was brought in to clean the internal finned tubes. A CO2 blast with a high-pressure treatment to removed accumulated ammonia salts, rust, and other contaminants and debris was utilized to improve the performance of the refinery.

RESULTS

After cleaning, the heater stack was brought down to the preferred temperature.

This led to an increased annual production revenue of $14,600,000, and saved the company about $100,000 in burner fuel each year.
